Twentieth Anniversary of Commissioning
Mrs. Lillabel Roan visited the ship named after her son, Charles H. Roan.
In September 1966, USS Charles H. Roan celebrated her twentieth anniversary of being commissioned. The October 1966 issue of the Cruiser-Destroyerman featured an article on this observation.
Mrs. Lillabel Roan, mother of the Roan's namesake, visited the ship for the occasion — hosted by Commander Raymond E. Ward, USN, the Roan's commanding officer. It was a fitting tribute on the deck of the destroyer that carried her son's name to ports around the world.
